This is my very first blog post on my own blog.  I am just going to post my thoughts and ideas about Dynamics NAV along with hopefully useful tips and tricks.  My passion is designing solutions for various needs especially around global insatllations of NAV.

To start with a little background:  I have been designing and in some cases developing some unique functionality in NAV for a wide variety of customers in a wide variety of industries.  My very first entrance into NAV design started in Navision Financials 1.00a.  The first challenge was to create a fine art management system where a specific item could only have a quantity of one on hand, could be purchased, sold, repurchased, and so on.  There could be costs added for refurbishement, storage, cleaning or other costs and this was way before the Item Charge functionality existed.  During this first adventure I had to design and develop the solution with no training.  I learned the C/Side development language and standards by reading the existing code.  I had never developed before which means that ingrained in me is the development method used by the Navision / NAV developers so my code looks like standard.

Over the years I have designed a sophisticated job shop system, developed a common set of objects for most of Europe and took that one setp further and designed the ability to conduct business in those same countries and collect and remit VAT based on the shipping location and the customer’s receiving location all within a single NAV company.  One of my favorite solutions was a one step consolidation process with automatic elimination entries.  Another more recent has been to create what I like to call “Data Migration on Steroids”.  I have participated in the design and planning for global object management and business functionality for several customers with operations in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, and North, Central and South America.
